Simon has been undertaking research in the field of marine biology for 30 years, specialising in the ecology of marine mammals and seabirds, mitigating interactions with fisheries and ecosystem modelling. He heads the Threatened, Endangered and Protected Species Subprogram at the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI), Aquatic Sciences Centre in South Australia.
